Before beginning ceramics unit, students went through a series of hand building techniques to assist with creating their own original idea and making it in clay. We first reviewed a presentation on pinch, coil, and slab. With a small amount of earthenware clay, students practiced each technique along with presentation.
What an amazing day with my awesome art students. We traveled to NCMA and enjoyed learning about many different artists and their works of art. After a 30 minute guided tour, students independently explored the West and East Wings of the Museum. We all gathered at the amphitheater lunch and I felt very lucky it was such a beautiful day.
After learning new hand building techniques, art students made a plan in visual journals, created their ideas out of wet clay working through many challenges along the way, waited through drying stages, and now finishing up glazing. Always exciting to see what they get back after the glaze firing. Coming soon...
